Principal Planning Consultant: York UK/Remote

AAH is an established consultancy based in York, looking to appoint a motivated and experienced RTPI Charter Principal Planner to work on an exciting variety of projects for private sector clients across England and Wales.

As a Principal Planner you will play a key role in developing our client base and enhancing company reputation. You will be responsible for working proactively and at your own initiative on a range of planning applications and planning appeals with an emphasis on large-scale residential and renewable energy projects including site reviews, planning applications and appeals.

An existing and secure stream of planning work for housing development and large scale renewable energy schemes provided by our joint venture partners, and continued growth of our private client base necessitate this expansion of our team. You will be involved in and lead a diverse range and scale of projects but primarily be responsible for the stream of large scale residential and renewable energy planning.

Autonomy is a given and you will put your own stamp on projects, nurture client relationships, and assist with managing and coaching planners whilst handling your own caseload from inception to completion. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team of chartered architects, landscape architects, urban designers and engineers to find holistic solutions for challenging commissions.

We are looking for a chartered RTPI professional with an accredited degree in Town Planning or related subject and significant experience in private and/or public sector planning preferably including Environmental Impact Assessment. Candidates that are eligible for membership of the RTPI will also be considered. A suitable candidate for the role of Principal Planner will be able to demonstrate:

Principal Landscape Architect / Senior Landscape Architect / Landscape Architect: York UK/Remote

AAH is looking to strengthen their landscape team with motivated and experienced Landscape Architects at various stages of their career. We would like to hear from CMLI candidates, or those working towards this status, with a proven track-record of Landscape Planning, Assessment and/or Design within the public or private sectors. Applications for both full and part-time employment are encouraged.

We are a specialist multi-disciplinary practice based in York, working on a strong pipeline of large scale residential and renewable energy developments, in addition to a varied workload encompassing the eco-tourism, commercial and industrial sectors. The successful applicants will work as part of our growing landscape team alongside in house Planning Consultants, Civil Engineers, and other environmental specialists on projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will work as part of a friendly, supportive and dynamic team but also be given autonomy within their role. A good working knowledge of IT is required, in particular Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and preferably GIS-based systems for the preparation of maps, plans, graphics and figures. Whilst the role is predominantly desk based, there will be a requirement for national travel to sites, meetings and other offices when needed.

Working as part of the team, the successful applicant would be involved in a broad range Landscape Planning, Assessment and Design projects. You will deliver, or assist in the delivery of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) and the design of high quality, multi-functional open spaces that promote amenity, ecology and Sustainable Drainage (through SuDS). Your work will be viewed not as an add on to reach a necessary outcome, but a means to increase the environmental credentials of a project, make it more desirable to end users, and in many cases a way improve both project viability and profitability.

Senior Civil Engineer/Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer

We are looking for an engineer with at least five years’ industry experience, an interest in flood risk management, sustainable drainage design and the wider engineering field to join our team in York, North Yorkshire. We provide feasibility and design advice to a range of clients involved in development and land use planning.

You will undertake site viability assessments and walkover surveys, flood risk assessments, sustainable surface and foul water drainage designs, and commissioning surveys as required. You will provide satisfactory resolution to engineering issues identified during planning applications and support clients in gaining the necessary post planning consents. You will liaise with developers/clients, consult with regulators and planning authorities and work with inter-disciplinary teams from within AAH Planning Consultants and their partnered organisations to deliver suitable designs.

You will have experience of implementing the National Planning Policy Framework, Building Regulations, Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations, Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance and/or Sewers for Adoption, the SuDS Manual, the Non-Statutory Standards for Sustainable Drainage and other development related guidance and standards in your work.
You will have a background of working with developers and local authorities to agree pragmatic solutions to flood risk and drainage constraints.

You will have a strong technical appreciation of hydrology, hydraulic modelling (fluvial and sewer), drainage and other aspects related to infrastructure delivery.

The post will be based in our York office with flexibility for home working, although travel to sites and meetings will be required.

You will be responsible for preparing engineering solutions for flood risk and drainage from early conceptual design through to tender preparation and ongoing project management.
